I recently did something I never do, I jumped in strangers conversation, I never do that!

I was parking my car outside my recreation club and going inside to pick up my son who was playing with Mr. Papa on duty. Maybe I wanted to buy more time to my self…hey all mommies need that. As I was walking towards the entry, two security guards , one woman and another man on a bicycle where having a conversation. One security guard was going home from his duty at a marriage function just opposite the club. From the venue I could hear the rhythm less songs sung by a singer trying too hard to take out a sensuous voice but on the road outside I could only imagine a drunk person singing in a karioke  bar…

As I zoned out the noise made by the overpaid singer, I heard the conversation, the security guard who was going off duty told the new security guy” food is good, I ate, you should also.” This new security guard, a very shy old man,had a tiffin in his hand he kept on arguing with the lady, the man on the bicycle and the other guard (going off duty )that he cant eat there it doesn’t look good.” The other guard insisted they are allowed to” the new guard in Gujarati slang, ” no he should not be eating there plus he had food from home.” Suddenly i jumped in their conversation, ” Kaka ( uncle) Khai lo…( eat there!)” I insisted, suddenly all of them on the road stared at me cause they could not believe I was talking to them.” Few seconds of long silence, again I told him he should eat there and the food should be good. The guard goes,” Madame Na khavai( I can’t eat).” So I told him it will be a nice change and he can just have snackes and sweets if he likes. So the rest of the people jumped in and told him “see Madame is also saying, you will like it.” The poor guard as if he had no choice says ” oh if Madame is saying then I will have some food there.” I said, ” very good and we parted.” As I went inside played with my son for a while, actually followed him around as he just wanted to randomly walk around :-). I was imagining the security guard having a good meal that day and I had just costed some hosts of a very tacky wedding venue an extra plate..I was feeling slightly like robin hood Lolz…

Other than jumping in strangers conversation, new things I did these last few days is staying without my mobile well it has gone for repair but still I did not start the spare till a day, lost my charger, did not track it waited for a day, initially I was very anxious without the phone but later started enjoying the freedom…thought of Christopher Nolan and how he never uses a mobile phone, maybe that helps him focus on his creativity, I have started to keep the mobile away as much as I can.

Also have started to try my hand in gardening, being a gardening virgin have already killed a poor plant but determined to save the rest, God and good weather hopefully will help me.

In cooking I amcooking my sabji in mustard oil, the flavour is so delicious..when I have my lunch most of my vegetables I cook in mustard oil…

If you don’t be open and try something new you will never know what you missing out on, plus life would be a bore and you as a person would sound boring to people around you cause you have nothing new to offer. Well those who love you will tolerate you but with new things you can inspire people around you. Comfort zone is not a good place to be in if you want to grow as a person and learn more.

As I aspire to grow and try new things all the time…its gives me a kick to enjoy ordinary things in life, who needs a vacation when everyday is fun 🙂

Sharing below an extremely simple recipe I saw on David Rocco’s show when he visited India..

cauliflower sabji in mustard oil

serves 4

1 cauliflower cut into florets

1 cup green peas optional

1 tomato chopped

1 tbsp mustard oil

2 tsp mustard seeds

2 tsp Jerra seeds

1 tsp asafoetida

1/2 tbsp mango powder

2 tsp turmeric powder

3 tsp chilli powder or as per taste

salt to taste

In a non stick Pan heat the mustard oil, add the asafoetida, mustard seeds and Jerra seeds, once they crackle add the tomatoes. Cook for a few minutes till tomatoes are cooked. Add the cauliflower, peas, all the other spices mix well, add half cup of water if needed. Cover and cook for 7-10 minutes or till the cauliflower is cooked.

server with roti rice naan, what ever.

p.s. Mustard oil is used in cooking a lot in Punjab and Rajasthan region of India.

cooking with mustard oil adds its orange colour to the food, it looks very tempting

  1. Good on you for trying new things. Being phone free can be very liberating and refreshing sometimes. And gardening is such a trial and error process like cooking. The learning is the fun part I think, even when it involves failing first.

  2. Ooh that looks delicious!
And good job on trying something new! Jumping into the middle of strangers’ conversations never fails to give me serious anxiety! ^_^
p.s. It’s Adi from The Happy Lifeaholic – I spontaneously deleted my old blog in September, and since you were one of my regular followers, I just wanted to drop you a note saying I’ve created a new one that I hope you’ll drop by sometime. It’s – 🙂
